Laxmi Jadhav is a real-life hero! At 75, she’s still working. Her energy and resilience are inspiring: every evening she turns up at a catering company where what she earns is barely enough to cover her Rs 7000 monthly rent. She continues to work because she’s responsible for more than just herself: After her only son died from Covid, her daughter-in-law disappeared leaving Laxmi to care for her 25-year-old grandson who has severe depression.
He’s the one she’s living for, yet she’s also wise enough to know that she has to take care of herself too. Laxmi is an active member of Dignity Foundation’s Loneliness Mitigation Centre at Jogeshwari in Mumbai. She has breakfast and lunch every day and enjoys exercising and hanging out with the friends she’s met there. They provide her with a ration kit that takes care of their dinner and her grandson's meals.
Three of us, Gopi, Kavita, Sanjay, who work together at danamojo admire people like Laxmi. She inspires us by proving that you’re never too old to contribute. By supporting Dignity Foundation’s path-breaking work with the elderly, we’re supporting Laxmi and others like her to live to their full capacity no matter what their age.
Fundraising is tough for NGOs. We often suggest that organisations ask their staff to join in the fun and raise money too. We thought we should practice what we preach! As employees of danamojo, we’ve decided to create teams ourselves to fundraise for an NGO of our choice. Please support us. Thank you!
